frowny faces on by default

i was reading this thread in the hot deals forum and noticed that nearly every reply, even the excited positive ones, had an angry red frowny icon - even the original poster's.

i hit reply to see what was up and it was selected by default.

is this normal behavior? i think most people don't even bother with these little icons, and it seems odd that their posts aren't being given something a little more neutral.

yep its normal, whatever the original posters message rating was is then default for that thread. most people including myself ignore it for the most part and never notice.

I agree that most people don't pay attention. Might prove slightly more valuable if the default was the blank page icon. That way, any other choices that people happen to make would stand out a bit more.

when you create a thread it is defaulted to the blank page icon :).

I was actually intending to reference the posts made within a given thread. For an example, some rants using the angry icon. I'd propose to have all posts within the thread default to the blank icon rather than default to the icon of the title post.
