What is the cheapest venue for purchasing this stuff? I used to get the "kits" that included a 4.02ml vial for dogs (the same stuff at nearly the same potency), which yielded 8 monthly .5ml doses that served my two cats for nearly 3 months each for ~$15-$17.

edit: Found an e-bay offer for $20. Is this the best out there these days? Is there another better and/or cheaper brand?

online is going to be cheapest, ebay will have the cheapest possible, but I would make sure they have a decent seller rating. I sell that same stuff for $50-$65 every day at work.

Some cats don't like the ointments so you might try capstar which is a pill that works for cats and dogs.

Be careful when doing this. I'm pretty sure most brands of flea and tick can be lethal to cats if you use the dog formulation. I think Frontline might be the one exception, but I wouldn't test my luck trying to save a few bucks with another brand.

Most of the ones that are bad for cats will have a picture of a cat with a cross over it and big letters saying "DO NOT USE ON CATS" AdvantageII and AdvantixII I know both have warnings on the package that are usually fairly obvious.

Frontline for dogs is well known to be ok for cats. It is the same exact formula, with the exception of an infinitesimally smaller concentration of one ingredient.

I have been using Frontline for dogs for my cats for years.

I get that. I was just saying be careful if you try other brands. My GF is a vet student and they see cats in every year that have been poisoned by dog flea/tick treatments. I don't know the details of the dosages and brands (and she's not here to ask right now) so I was simply suggesting caution.

I buy a larger size...then split it between my two small dogs...and cat.

Frontline plus is fine for use with cats. It supposedly isn't quite as effective on cats as their "cat formula," but it's still better than not treating them.

3/$20 isn't bad. I think I pay close to $10/dose at Costco or the on-line places.

I was wondering about that because it didn't seem to be as effective last year for my cats as in previous years.

Cats usually don't need this. They can't get Lyme disease and they pull tics off themselves. Fleas prefer not to snack on cat blood if they can avoid it and capstar is essentially a nuclear bomb for fleas on cats.

Cats are alien beasties'

On the one hand, that's cool to know. On the other, I've been hoping my cat would get lyme disease and die, so I will need another plan.

I think one of you should be shunted to a shelter. I'm leaning towards you. ():) :awe:

Frontline for dogs is the same for cats. You can find online how much to put her LB of cat.

We've bought Frontline Plus for dogs and just used a syringe to put the proper amount on cats for years.

What we did find a couple years ago is that Frontline Plus stopped killing fleas. Still killed ticks fine.

So we started using Advantage 2. Only kills fleas, but it works. It also is the exact same for cats and dogs.

Now some other products are not. I don't know about all of them, but I do know AdvanTix is NOT the same. I think Advantage Multi isn't, also.

My wife says to try 1800petmeds.com

But we use Advantage II as the vet recommended it.

She handles the pet meds.

10% first order, free shipping.

Yeah my wife said that about capstar, but if you don't use something else also within 48 hours and they are indoor cats, you'll still have flea eggs hatching in your house and they'll just start up again.

We had fleas pretty bad one time in the house when we had carpet and didn't notice the fleas on em at first once, too awhile to get rid of the little bitey buggers.

All laminate, and we let the cats roam in the screened pool area for outdoors, actually had a hawk swoop down on time and crash into the side of it going after one once. He hit the ground got up and took off.
