Front USB won't detect certain devices?

Has anyone had this problem before? My front usb ports can detect my mouse but cannot detect my key drive that I want to use it for. The headers on my NF7-S definitley work because I tried them on the back panel that came with my mobo. At first I thought it was something about my front connectors but at least they are able to detect my mouse. When I plug in my key drive it tells me it's an unknown device but the key drive works fine on the back ports.

I'm not sure about how to fix this one.

Thanks,

cmai

Are the green, white, red, and black plugged in accordingly? Is it just one front usb that has this issue or both?

It's both. I'm pretty sure they are plugged correctly. I've looked at online guides and everything.

Thanks,

I have read somewhere that the secondary usb connecters on some mobos carry less power than the primarys.

Some usb peripherals need more juice than others, so try plugging your problematic device into one of the ports on the back plate.

all 10 connectors connect to a single set of 10 USB pins. the block is represented in the manual very clearly.

It might also be a problem with quality of wiring/shielding. I also run into the same problem with a USB 2.0 key drive; it won't work with the front connectors on my Antec 1080AMG, but if I use the separate connector that came with my A7N8X-Dlx, it works just fine, and at USB2.0 speeds. So my guess is that the problem is in the wires/connectors, and not with the headers on the mobo.

Same problem with a Dell Dimension desktop (P4 1.8G), USB flash drive cannot be detected in front usb ports. Anyway it's my office machine I don't care.
