Front USB doesnt work

Well by front USB i mean the USB in front of my tower (Xdreamer). there are two usb slots in the front neither of them work. i've updated with the cd rom that came with the mobo (GA-7n400 pro). basically the problem is that i plug in a device and my mouse goes dead and the comp detects new hardware. but i tought i already installed it with the cd.

I had this problem with my old leadtek k7ncr18d pro board and my "Turbo case"(by aspire I think) I plugged in a USB mouse and joystick in the front USB's and killed them both. I've been reluctant to try them again with this new board but I have a feeling it might be the cables on the case and not the board. If anyone else knows what to do please let us know!
