Front port audio

Hi,
I have been having a devil of a time setting up a Gigabyte K8N PRO motherboard. I'm not even going to go into the horror story. This is just the final thing left (I think).

I can't get my front port audio to work. In fact, it is so not right that my audio doesn't work at all from any hole.

Here's the details on the case (Aerocool Aeromaster Jr)

http://www.aerocool.us/case/ae...ne-c-other%20cable.htm

G(Mic) ---usually Pin 1
G ---usually Pin 2
Mic---usually Pin 3
R --- usually Pin 5
NEXT R---usually Pin 6
L --- usually Pin 9
NEXT L---usually Pin 10

Here's what my motherboard says:

1 - MIC
2 - GND
3 - REF
4- Power
5 - FrontAudio(R)
6 - Rear Audo (R)
7- Reserved
8 - No pin
9 - Front Audio (L)
10 - Rear Audio (L)

I assumed from my reading etc and did this
1 - MIC
2- G (MIC)
3 - G
4 - empty
5 - R
6 - NEXT R
7- empty
9 - L
10 - NEXT L

I get nothing, no sound from anything front or back. Can someone please help?

Thanks,
Dave

If you disconnect the front audio cables, do the rear ports start working again? and were there any jumpers installed on the motherboard audio pins when it arrived? if so these would need to be reinstalled to enable the rear audio connections again.

As far as wiring the front panel audio goes, I'd do this

1 - Mic
2 - G
3 - empty
4 - empty
5 - R
6 - empty
7 - empty
8 - empty
9 - L
10 - empty

What about next R and next L? I figured that those were the return-to-back portions of the setup.

Yeah, i should be able to get the rear audio working by putting the pins back on 5&6, 9&10. But I really wanted to get the front audio working.

you're probably right but note you had the 'return' wire connected to the rear speaker channels originally. The motherboard doesn't have dedicated return pins for l/r channels - it appears to rely on a common ground for all inputs and outputs, although pin 3 - REF is probably ground as well

No luck with my sound. I reattached the jumpers and I find I actually am getting absolutely no sound anywhere, not even when it is set just to the back speakers.

I am so sick of onboard sound. I have never had a motherboard where it actually works. GRRR

I tried the Nvidia nforce sound driver, the realtek sound driver, no luck with either (although I do hear a pop from the speakers during the install).
I think unless anyone has an idea I will have to dig out my soundblaster PCI 512. I bought that back in like 2000 because the sound on my KT133 motherboard was a POS too.

There are no IRQ conflicts. Sound is enabled in the BIOS. Detected OK and no errors in Device manager. cord hooked up to proper output.

When I am using the realtek drivers it can autodetect speakers hooked up. When I plug in the speaker it tells me that the connections are not right.

I'm struggling ith front audio myself rignt now, so I'm no expert.
But I think you're missing ground for your audio.

I suggest you make sure that your G is on pin 2.
That will provide ground for the entire system.
Pins 1 & 3 can get the two Mics & pin 4 is empty.
