Hi, first time builder here.

I have an Antec Sonata case, and an intel 875PBZ mother board. The mother board front panel connector pins don't have enough space to allow for the Sonata connectors to plug in. I believe the board is using a 9 pin new format rather than an older 15 pin format. I can plug my reset sw, power sw, and hdd led in fine, but there is no space to plug in the power led and speaker connectors.

Can I still plug the power led in without the ground being connected or should I just leave the whole thing unconnected? And the same for the speaker connector, can I just leave it unconnected?

If the mobo has the pins completely adjacent to eachother, then you may want to simply relocate the wires in the Sonata's plugs. They're held in place by little plastic catches. In this photo, I'm lifting the catch on a plug so the wire and its metal contact can be slid out of the plug. Then I can slide the contact into a different hole. Does that help? Just don't break the plastic catch... be gentle. :) Welcome to the Forums, by the way :)

Also, it's completely optional to use either of those. Your system will run fine without the Power LED or speaker hooked up, if you prefer to do that.

Hey thanks for replying. After I posted the message and looked a bit more, I found that on the Intel D875PBZ board I am using there is another connection point on the board for the Power LED. Now all I have remaining are the speaker and mic, but I dont need either of those so I won't worry about them. If I didn't notice that this mobo has another Power LED connector I would definitely give your suggestion a try, i don't see why it wouldn't work. I will have to remember that little trick in the future if anything happens to not exactly fit. Good stuff, thanks again mechBgon.

Why can't they just have one standard connector for the normal things like the RST, PWR LED, HDD LED,SPEAKER, PWR. It would make things so much easier. I have built over 200 computers and to this day I still end up having to swap a LED cable around at least once during a build.

What if someone were to break them or are missing some. Does anyone know where to find replacements?
