I'm almost ready to start my first homebuild system :)

Well, the only problem are the front panel cables, the little ones saying 'reset sw', 'power LED', etc.

I'm using an Asus A7V333. The included instructions show places for:

Speaker Connections
Power LED
Reset SW
ATX Power Switch
Message LED
Keyboard Lock
SMI Lead

Now, first of all, on my cables SMI Lead, Keyboard Lock and Message LED do not exist. Also, on my cables there is a H.D.D. Led which isn't anywhere noted in the instructions.

Do I need to connect the H.D.D. Led to anything and what about the SMI Lead, Keyboard Lock and Message LED?

In addition, there is another bunch of cables (In a seperate bunch, coming from the same place as the ones mentioned above).

They are:

1+5V

2+5V

1GROUND
1+D
1-D

2GROUND
2+D
2-D

I have no idea what those are or where they are suppost to go.

btw, the manual is here:
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socka/kt333/a7v333/ie1010_a7v333.pdf

The front panel instructions are on page 56.

Any help is appreciated.

UPDate: After some looking around it seems the H.D.D. goes with the Message Led.

But there is still the question of those other cables?

Although I don't have that Asus board, the two I do have connect as such: HDD light to "the IDE Activity LED". Those other wires are for a USB connection to your mobo to give you extra USB ports.

Since most people like a 2nd opinion-

Message LED- not used on MB which have no Message LED output. Many don't
SMI/ Keyboard lock- haven't seen those before. I wouldn't worry about them yet.
HDD lead- shows activity on IDE bus. may be labeled differently on MB, and possibly located seperately on MB. (typically if not in the same stack of pins on MB it is relatively close by.)

The other set of cables from the case are for front panel USB ports.

EDIT: read your manual. See page 43 and 44.

The header for your board is at the bottom(this assumes you are looking at the board from the top, external connections to the top right.)

IDE Activity LED connection is located by itself near the bottom right.

Help ya out?

Actual manual. (your link was to an update to this manual- not the whole thing...

Wrong manual link.
If you hook up the front usb make sure it's correct otherwise your computer won't boot. My case has front usb but I did it wrong the first time. Computer wouldn't boot. Took out the usb leads and it booted. Got it put in right and the computer worked. It was hard plugging in all those connectors

I don't really need any USB ports. Seems like not touching it at all is the best idea.
