Front panel audio jack not working

My OS is W7.

Mobo: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/785GME51.html#/?div=Detail

I recently bought a new headset, plugged into rear panel - it worked great. But when I tried to plug into front panel, for some reason the microphone didn't work. When I went to "Recording devices" I noticed an interesting thing - the "microphone device" was showing activity when some sounds were made by the computer itself(The activity increased really much if I started listening to music). As if the mic was recording the computer's sound and not my voice. Then I unpluged the microphone and.. nothing changed - the "microphone device" in the "Recording devices" was still there and it still reacted to the sounds of computer. But when I plug the headset's microphone into rear panel, that same "microphone device" show activity as it should - when I am speaking. Maybe the front microphone jacket is broken?

Thanks and I apologize if this sounds a little abstract. I can provide screenshots if necessary.

P.S. I tried to listen to the sound when the microphone is conncted to front panel, but surprisingly enough, the sound is some random noise, like white noise of a radio.

Uploading some images of my recording and playback devices, maybe it will help:

Yes, "Live! Cam Sync HD VF0700" is a camera wiith a built-in microphone, its connector is USB. But as you can see I disabled it,so it shouldn't be any problems, right?

The thing about Realtek manager is that I don't have it - I tried to install Realtek audio drivers, but nothing changes. Also tried to remove the VIA drivers and then install Realtek's, it stills doesn't change anything. I am puzzled about this - mobo should have Realtek audio chipset built-in, but I get "VIA". Is this one and the same now ?

Have you tried the front panel connectors before this attempt?

Maybe the connector is not installed correctly.

I think not, but my headset's earphones seem to work, and they're connected to front.

Nvm, it's not that big of a deal. If I'll really need the microphone, back panel is working, so I'll just connect the mic there. 🙂
