Front Lines: Fuel of War to support 50 player multi-player on the 360

I still haven't tried either of the demos but the dev of Front Lines is now saying it will support 50 player multiplayer. Link

Confirmed via Kaos Studios' official forums, Frontlines developer deslief made it known that the game will in fact feature 50 player online multiplayer over Xbox Live. 50 players! Kaos says that they initially planned for a 32 player versus and even got up to as many as 73 players, but are settling a rather comfortable 50. Maybe that'll be the bullet point to make some pickup Frontlines, maybe not. Let's just hope multiplayer doesn't end up being a ride through lag-city.

I think Front Lines is supposed to be the first multiplayer game outside of FFXII and Phantasy Star: Universe that has dedicated servers on Live. Which is why they're able to get up to 50.

I'm still not overly interested in the game but I may have to give the multiplayer demo a try now. I actually wish them success though so that maybe other 360 games will get dedicated servers to improve the multiplayer performance and gameplay.

I still haven't tried the multiplayer demo, I really need to.

Sounds interesting and I like the idea of dedicated servers.

I tried the demo out last week. I don't remember exactly how many people were on the server (maybe 20+) but 90% of them was freaking sniping or flying their stupid little R/C choppers around. I tried several different rooms and it was the same theme in all of them. If this is what to expect from the full version, then 50 people all huddled in a corner sniping or playing with their joysticks........I'll pass.

Awesome! Now there's a 300% greater chance of hearing someone make racial slurs, curse off your mother, and/or be called a i love you by a pre-pubescent inbred asshole!

i still think there will be a lag fest.

I just played the multiplayer demo tonight. As long as you select one of the dedicated servers hosted by the devs (server name starts with KAOS) it seemed to be fine. I played oil field on a 32 player server and there was little to no lag as the number of players fluctuated between 20 and 32 players.

If you've ever played Battlefield 2, you've basically played Frontlines. Which makes sense since the devs of this game came from working on Battlefield. They've added some neat features like the drones and moving the Frontline across the battlefield to keep players going on basically the same objective though. Whereas Battlefield 2 was always a cluster with everyone running to different capture points all over the map, Frontlines keeps helps keep everyone on your side focused as your team progresses/retreats. The basics are still the same though - infantry classes with different load-outs, vehicles, capture points with a ticket countdown, etc.

The graphics were decent and, as I said, little to no lag while playing on a KAOS hosted dedicated server. I only played Oil Field and it almost seemed too big for 32 players. When the number of players dropped down to 20 players in the match it felt kind of empty. Fortunately, you can select spawn points close to the front so that your never left having to cross a vast empty battlefield. The scary part is, one of the devs commented in a podcast that Oil Field was only about a quarter of the size of their largest map! Yikes!

So, it's not Halo 3, it's not COD4....it is a new version of Battlefield. Which, playing tonight was surprisingly not terrible. I still don't think I'll buy it but like I said earlier, I wish them success so that maybe more 360 devs will consider using dedicated servers to enhance the multiplayer experience. I hope to try the demo again and try to get on a full server and maybe try the Streets map which is supposed to be a smaller and infantry only map.

Who cares? The demo was suck.

Uhh, I do because I'm curious about how well they pull off using dedicated servers.

Admittedly though, if it wasn't for that, I would have never downloaded the demo.
