since my car is registered in cali do i have to have 2 license plates? is it where it is registered or where it is driven?

the cop would have to be very observant to notice if a front cali license plate was missing anyways as none of the cars have a front one, but i just thought id ask

Well the real answer is that if you live in Arizona you need to register your car there.

I would assume where it is registered. Why not register the car in Arizona?

Just keep the font plate and be safe. Also ignore those who tell you to reregister in Arizona. Your fine.

Anyways I am 90% sure you can take the front plate off since the car is being driven in Arizona and Arizona law applies not california. Just like how you have to obey the traffic laws of Arizona and not Cali when you drive there.

Only matters where you drive. AZ cops know it's legal in their state to not have it so they won't pull someone over because your plates are from somewhere else...

AZ cops are notorious for being assholes so if they catch ya with CA back only plates they may just pull ya over for the fun of it to harass ya about the front one and being registered in AZ if you make any mention of going to school here.
Now that being said find a good license plate frame and put the front one on so it doesnt look ugly. problem solved :p

Frames don't make the plate any less ugly. I've seen a couple people actually cut a good portion of the plate off above and below the numbers. Looks much better but I can only imagine the hassle of getting a ticket for it and needing to go get new plates.

Who really cares? Leave it on or the next time you travel over to Cali and forget to put the tag back on you could get busted. Why on earth would you want to remove it, then have to replace it each time you cross the border?

cali has a front license plate law. therefore, you already have the answer.

btw, CO also requires a front plate. But it ruined the lines on my car so I never put it on. If you're prepared to get a fix-it ticket (maybe eventually) then dont worry about it.

Keeping the front plate won't hurt...

BUT!

...removing it might cause problems.

Therefore, keep it on.

Alabama doesn't have a front plate law, but my car has a European front plate on it. Why? Because I've got holes in my front bumper if I don't. Fvckers. Have to have both in Europe, so when my car was shipped over here it still had the holes. I guess I could get it fixed, but for now I've got a euro plate on the front.

yo no tengo front plate... the car is a 1998 camry.. haven't been caught yet. it's a cheapass ticket anyways, and probably costs less to get caught once than to get a front plate...

My past three cars I have owned havent had front plates. I have been pulled over a few times and the cops usually dont give a crap. They will call you on it if either you're being a dick, or they are and want to nit pick everything. I honestly dont see the point of a front plate.
