House key is getting kind of sticky (i.e, the key doesn't slide in as smoothly)...

Is it okay to use WD40 to lubricate it or is there something special that should be used?

Graphite or something?
 
Step away from the graphite and use WD40. Yes, it attracts dirt but not nearly fast enough to be a concern. You may deeply regret the decision to use WD40 in oh, about 10 years.
