Front Audio Connections

I have been trying to get my front audio ports to work for weeks with no luck.

The pins on my motherboard are labelled like this:

1 PORT1_L
2 AUD_GND
3 PORT1_R
4 PRECENCE_J
5 PORT2_R
6 SENSE1_RETURN
7 SENSE_SEND
8 Empty
9 PORT2_L
10 SENSE2_RETURN

The wires from the case are labelled like this:

R-OUT
R-RET
L-OUT
L-RET
GROUND

MIC-INT
MIC-POWER
GROUND

I cannot figure out what to plug into what. There is one audio out port and one mic port. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What is your motherboard? Check the manual and/or the manufacturer's site. Some boards require you to move one or more jumpers to enable front panel audio ports.

If that's not the case, I would guess that these are the associations you need for the outputs:

1 PORT1_L = L-OUT
2 AUD_GND = GROUND
3 PORT1_R = R-OUT
4 PRECENCE_J = ???
5 PORT2_R = (Ignore - You have only one set of audio outputs)
.
.
9 PORT2_L = (Ignore - You have only one set of audio outputs)

I have no idea what the input labels mean. You should find that in the manual. It COULD mean:

6 SENSE1_RETURN = MIC-INT or L Audio input (guessing INT means Input signal and it's the Left channel of a stereo input)
7 SENSE_SEND = MIC-POWER
8 Empty
.
.
10 SENSE2_RETURN = R Audio input.

Hope that helps. Good luck. 🙂
