From Zalman 7700Cu to Scythe Ninja Plus

Was: 7700Cu
The good looking - mediocre performance - loud

Now: Ninja Plus
Another good looking HSF - better performance - quiet-er

Result:
3800+ @1.55V STABLE!

Temp:
Idle = only +1C delta from case/mobo temp (was +2C)
Load = +57C, post running 2x Prime95 for 30min (mobo temp=45C!)
w/ 7700Cu, never able to go longer than 20min (temp delta was 15-17C)
I think my 3800+ doesn't like running at +60C...

My poor Lian-Li PC-60 is having such a hard time removing hot temp from the case
My plan is to add a blowhole for another 80mm fan in the rear, and maybe duct the heat from Ninja directly outside and rely on Seasonic fan to suck all the hot air from regulators

Pic of Ninja barely fits inside PC-60

I want to know:
1) Are all X2 3800+ hate +60C?
2) will the extra rear blowhole really help?
3) will it be better without the top blowhole fan? (better airflow?)

Notice you got the plus model with the fan. How is the fan? I'm probably going to get a ninja, and if the accompanying fan is a worthy contender, I'll get the plus model.

Do you have any fans to compare the noise to?

And ouch, those case temps are crazy!

letdown427,
the S-Flex 1200RPM fan that comes with Ninja Plus is OK. Definitely smoother & quieter the Zalman Fan.
At 12V, it's audible - but smooth & consistent.
At 5V, it's dead silent.
I wish there's a way adjust the fan speed automatically based on CPU temp. reading.
I bought the Plus model since it was cheaper than the regular (directron sale)

furballi, I'll keep my Lian-Li over that Antec. As far as Vcore goes, it's needed to reach 2.7GHz

Update: I opened the case when mobo temp was +45C and temp. dropped to +40C. CPU temp was only +48C, IMO, quite amazing!
I guess this proves that my case lack both intake and exhaust. :|

Like I said, get a better case, or improve your case flow. You're asking for trouble when you cram that much heat into a small, poorly-vented case.

bigpow: it looks like you're using 80mm fans in that Lian-Li. Get a case with 120 mm fans you'll be happy. It'll reduce noise and temperatures (depending on what type of fans you get though).

Update:
After loosing a few drops of blood (my pinky went inside the fan in such a terrible angle, almost knocked off the nail), I think I'm getting better at taming the beast.

Using SpeedFan, fan speed is now controlled by the function of CPU temp.
60% by default and 100% when CPU temp > +45C

Other findings:
- SpeedFan 4.28 can't see 7800GT sensor
- Zalman Vf700 fan doesn't like PWM

Case temperature is still a problem, still considering between Antec P180 or Lian-Li PC-V1200B plus

Try removing one of the drive bay covers on the front of your case in front of the ninja fan. Then cover the opening with a screen or something like that.

This will ensure that your heatsink gets fresh air from the outside. It should drop your temperatures quite a bit. I have both 120 mm intake and outtake fans on my case, and doing this with my ninja still dropped the temperature about 3°.

You should see even better improvement of yours. Tell me how it goes.

does the ninja plus really come with the S-flex fan or just a regular Scythe fan? The specs on the 1200rpm sflex is close, but not the same as the specs from the fan thats on the Ninja Plus. Can you confirm?

Ping2Pong, it's kinda hard to tell since I don't have the S-Flex fan to compare with
But it sure is dead silent at 7V ;)

Oh just look at the sticker on the fan, it should say either Scythe or S-flex on it. The reason why i ask is because at the local shop get all my gear from, they have their own combo for the ninja and s-flex. I havent asked them yet, but from what i read on scythes website it doesnt say anything about having the S-flex fan and i find it weird that the PTS guys would make their own combo instead of just buying the ninja plus. Here check it out:

Ninja/S-flex

maybe insted you got this fan:

Scythe fan

I dunno, im just trying to see if i should buy a ninja plus, or just this combo deal; i got a new build for a friend again, so im weighing my options.

Mine doesn't look like either one ??

I'm pretty sure it's not a store combo since the box says Ninja Plus and the manual has all the right information.

EDIT: That store has pretty good deal on the Ninja + Nexus combo, I wouldn't hesitate if I were you.

Looks good :)
but there was really no need to put that fan in the front. You already have the rear exhaust and the ninja fan pulling air from that opening. If the front fan is noisy at all, feel free to remove it. Your temperatures shouldn't even increase by a degree.

But again, good work. I'm still too lazy to cover my open drive bay that lets air in for my ninja ;)

I happen to have an unused Ninja plus 120mm fan I'm not using. I bought it but it didn't work out with my case design and objective. I will be happy to let it go cheap.

I see a SATA to PATA adapter! Nice. Those are nifty and work well. :)

Nice work. If you ever want the two 5.25"bays back, paired 92's will fit at the lower front.
Just takes a drill + nibbler + time. Paired 92's will drive a quiet 80cfm with the right fan
selection.
