from your, admittedly myopic view of the world, who was the most influential individual to have lived

I used to have a book titled "The 100 Most Influential People in History" or something like that. It was HUGE. All I remember was that Mohammed was given the #1 spot.

Surprisingly, Chuck Norris did not make the cut.

I'm going to have to second this one, assuming I'm right.

Anyone in the last 100 years or so cannot be called the most influential person ever as we don't have enough data to justify it.

Also, any sports stars are pretty much instantly removed from the most influential listings. Can anyone remember the names of sports stars from the 1600s? No. How many scientists, writers, philosphers, etc are remembered today, even thousands of years after their deaths?

In all of mankind?

1. Jesus
2. Muhamed (sp)

Those two (in that order) account for 90% of all the problems on Earth right now.

Ghengis Khan is a very distant third. There are scientists who believe that 1 out of every seven people on earth is descended from him.

Its so hard to tell who is simply a product of changes in their times, and who is the changer of the time. For example, did Jesus spur the birth of Christianity, or was he simply the figurehead a group of Jews used to launch their own beliefs. Same goes for alot of scientists, were they the ones who actually changed the views of the world, or were they simply in the right place at the right time to discover something that would likely have been discovered very soon anyways. For example the people who developed the atomic bomb could be seen as signifigant in history, but if the US hadn't developed it in 1945 then someone whould have sooner rather than later. The scientific knowledge was all out there, it simply took the $$$ to develop them. The exact same designs were developed independantly be several groups.

I tend to agree. However, it wasn't Jesus that was the problem, but rather Paul and a number of the rest of the early Christians who came after him who really established the Christian religion.

Mohammed was a piece of work, and the world would be a far better place had he never lived.
