Man, I laughed myself stupid when Chris ICQ'd me a link to his latest brilliant stroke. I won't say it's a stroke of genius, but perhaps it will apply if successful. After all, ideas are only stupid until they're a huge success, right? Here's Chris's own announcement:
"Now, against my better judgment, I launched a new site this weekend. Don't ask me why - because I still don't know. It was a passing thought - a goofy idea - and I acted upon it without hesitation. From my perspective, it's nothing more than innocent fun. However, instead of you discovering the link through someone else, I thought you better hear it from the stud's mouth first. I'm now the proud owner of RentMyChest.com. I didn't buy it from anybody else, it was just sitting there - begging to be registered. And so I did it. And then I started doing it. Please don't look if you don't have a sense of humor. Chuckle, gasp, and kick yourself for not thinking of it before I did. So why say something about it here? Well, because I just know someone else is gonna take credit for the idea and I'll be left shouting: "But... but..." And I don't wanna be in that position. It's nothing novel, mind you - although it's obviously been supporting my digital vices for the past week or so. You know what I love most about the Internet right now? The fact that you can do something like this - and the fact that others will look at it like a deer stares at oncoming traffic."
The next day, I had a thought that while copy-cat in nature, and bound to be less successful, was my own way of going about the same concept. No nudity for me, though. I was thinking about scrawling messages on the front of the server rack that adorns my basement. Alas, rentmyrack.com has already been registered. Perhaps that would have been a more suitable URL for Chris's gig, but that's beside the point.
Frown on the concept if you must, but Chris embodies everything that makes the Internet great. Creativity, energy and a willingness to be himself. I've never been known for my creative juices, but I've come to realize that over the last two years, Chris has managed to influence the way I go about some things. I don't think I'll ever be able to keep up with him, but that's not what matters. He is an ingenuity mentor.
Yours Technically,
Randy Nieland
