alright...so my brother had a little network going in our house with a netgear router. we use adelphia. so today he had to leave for college and take the router with him so i went out and bought a cat5e connector figuring i could just take the cable from the modem and run it to another cable because it wasn't long enough. well...after trying this it didn't work and i have no idea why. he left the router with me for another week so that i could try to fix it. it works fin with the router but not directly to my computer 🙁 how can i get it to work?

i thought i would just be able to unplug my cable and the cable from the modem and just connect thm and have it work well...🙁 do i need to set up a new connection or something?

Quick and easy solution -- but brother a new router and keep the existing (working!) one.

how many PC's are on your network?? when you first sighned up with ur ISP, what was your pc that connected to it?? some ISP's use your MAC address of your LAN adapter so that if you use another card, you won't be able to connect. there should be an option to clone your MAC address. did you use that?

my brother had it all set up when i was away in spain. it was setup on his computer and now his computer is gone and i just have the modem connected to the router wheich is then connected to me. im the only one on the network now. he said that when they came to set it up the guy just went to some site and it was all done automaticaly. i have no idea what happened. i think i'll just call adelphia tomorrow since its sunday and tell them what the problem is and make them fix it

im betting this is a mac address issue like i stated before. ask your brother what MAC address of the network adapter it is, imput that address in your router, then hit the "clone mac address" button. after that it should work.
