from i7 920 to Haswell 4670K

I'm itching about what improvements in power-consumption improvements and other areas I will gain from my i7 920 to a 4670K in everyday desktop uses. I don't consider myself a power-user on my main rig. Just the usual email, maybe up to 10-20 tabs open in browser. Basically not-so taxing type things except for maybe editing and then converting within Windows Live Movie Maker.. So I can't really ask what a 4670K will do for me because there really is no big reason to upgrade besides looking into other areas like power-consumption, maybe faster USB 3.0.. the latest Serial ATA.. etc.

If i'm not missing out, re-assure me! haha

I wouldn't consider a non K chip. I would like to leave the option open for switching a possible build over to a gaming rig down the road, and I have a Micro-Center nearby

For your uses, there is very little noticeable performance difference between the two. Only power consumption (you won't ever save enough $ to justify the purchase though), integrated graphics, and the improved features of a new platform. However the old CPU is losing value all the time, the sooner you sell it the better. That you have an MC nearby also weighs in favor of upgrading. But I'm still not sure if it's enough, since you don't get anything substantial out of the upgrade

OT: your main rig specs say "OCZ 840 Pro"... You probably mean Samsung not OCZ

If I were you, I wouldn't update.

The cost doesn't justify the performance.

For the uses you specified, there definitely is no benefit, other than much lower idle power (half of your current 86W, I'd guess), plus MUCH faster boot times due to both SATA 6Gbps and UEFI.

It's a new hybrid combination! lol! how did that go on for so long

Well I guess it's just re-assuring unless I want more processing power for apps I in-frequently use.. I guess I was diggin for maybe a possible reason. Thanks

Sadly I think you are all right.. no big feature to make use of, no cost savings/heat, ... well least I didn't throw away Micro Center when I did these rig updates..
