I can't figure this one out for the life of me. I had windows working super fast before. Boot times were like 15 20 secs flat and shutdowns were around 3 to 5 seconds flat. Now all of a sudden i put in a NIC card and the boot times are like 90 seconds to maybe 2 minutes and the disk performance from my HD is horrible.

My system;
Via 4in1 drivers 4.24
750 athlon classic/alphakit
Tyan slot a with newest bios
Lucent 56k Winmodem
Quantum 10.2 7200rpm LM
plextor 12/10/32a CD-rw
voodoo3 3000pci
Netgear 311tx NIC
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard
Win98se

WTf is going on with it?

That NIC by default is looking for a DHCP server, and then finally tim4es out .I give it an IP address, and that should speed up the boot time. If you are using a DHCP server, then there really isnt anything you can do to speed it up.. As for the disk access not being slow, i think that might be another issue.

same question here.. i go into a little more detail..
