From AMD to Core 2 Duo

For the first time ever I ve decided for an Intel option. Im decided in two things :

Proc: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
Mobo: Gigabyte P965 S3

What Im a lil confused is RAM...do I need 800Mhz RAM or I can stick with 667Mhz? Is there a big difference ?

I was thinking on buying this one : http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-1024MB-PC6400...-6552570-4652710?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

I can only buy from Amazon.

Is there a big difference in getting that 1GB stick against getting a couple 512MB sticks ?

Thanks everyone and happy holidays.

If you are buying new ones then why not get the faster ones... there will be some difference maybe not much - after all they are faster...

Definitely Yes, its a nice website - IFF its cheaper - check at newegg and mwave and zipzoomfly 1st - Basically you are buying it from Tigerdirect, its a good website - reputed and time tested but generally expensive, so...

Y E S - these rams are dual channel - pair will be much faster than a single one

What I meant is I can only buy from Amazon...Im not in US so I can only buy from there.

Two 512MB will be then...thanks....

One more question...Will my XP90 fit that Core Duo ?

It seems that your CPU cooler will not support the C2D (or any socket 775 CPU). According to the Thermalright's website.

My advice would be to hold off on the purchase long enough to save a bit more for 2Gb RAM. The extra $100 will be well spent and give you some extra headroom for the future.

Prices for the Core 2 Duo drop here in Feb-Mar if you don't need it now, why not wait a little? Faster ram is the best thing to go with as these things are great at overclocking and if you have lower speed ram you will give yourself a crutch. While overclocking might not be your thing, it is something that I would recommend with a Core 2 duo as they seam to be very good.
