Perhaps by "value" he is referring to performance/dollar, in which his point is still valid; the 980 doesn't offer good performance/dollar (which is a fact, not just an opinion). It is a poor choice today considering other available options.

You seem to be pretty defensive there ocre.

Defending your purchase can only go so far... GTX 980 was a great card for its absolute performance but not value wise. 970 was a better compromise, better buy and the last gen real star.

OP yes, i would jump on a reference 980ti, in fact i'm debating doing the same, difference is that i have a slower card than yours, so my decision its easier :)

You seem to be rewriting history here. 980 didn't shake up anything.

The GTX 980 did shake up the 550 MSRP price-point and forced AMD to drop down to compete. Obviously, the GTX 970 was more of a value offering and really helped redefine price/performance strongly when launched. I would say the GM-204 derivatives were/are very disruptive -- garnering compelling performance with impressive performance/watt on the same node.

I say go for it OP. I moved from 780 SLI to 980ti single and its actually faster. Benchmarks would say about 80% over a single 780 and sli probably not scaling quite that well so my single 980ti is faster than my 780sli. I had intended on getting another 980ti right away but not sure I need to at the moment. I can't believe how easy and well it overclocks. Right out of the box max the power slider and its perfectly happy running at 1450 all day.....

n0x1ous: I just replaced a Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 OC with an EVGA GTX980TI SC+BP and WOW what a difference.

You would be correct, I thought that was obvious since half that post was comparing performance to price :)

It's telling that you would rather paste a wall of text about a linguistical nitpick to someone who's isn't a native speaker when you're fully aware what that actual point was.
What I meant with "value" in that post was the ratio between the price and the benefits of an item.

I have nothing more to add. If someone is ok paying a huge premium for minor gains I have no issues with that and I don't have any stake in trying to change that opinion. Be happy with your purchase, no need to justify it to anyone but yourself ;)
