From 4gb to 3838, back to 4gb?

Ok I got a question... I am building up my new computer. The core things I have are a i5-2500k, Asrock z68 Extreme 4, 4gb Corsair XMS memory, and a GTX 560 Ti.

I noticed on my first POST, which I did on an outside the case build, it listed my memory as 4gb. Then when I put it in the case, and did another POST after setting up the DVD Burner and Hard Drive it was at 3838mb. It stayed like that for several POSTs and then jumped back up to 4gb.

This can't be a Windows 32bit vs 64bit problem because I don't even have Windows installed!

Anyone have any idea on whats up...?

No idea, don't know much about BIOS.

One thing I did realize is that when my memory was 3838 I believe my 560 Ti was not installed...

Could a GPU affect memory...?

I'm only guessing here but since the onboard GPU on Sandybridge doesn't have any VRAM it might have set aside some ram for it - seems logical.

take the card back out and see what happens.
