From 32bit to 64bit

I've decided to make the move to 64bit ubuntu from 32. Is it necessary that I re-install or do I just need a different kernel?

EDIT: Ah, need the 64bit libraries. I knew it couldn't be simple. Time to re-install.

There's little reason to run a full 64-bit distro, it's a lot simpler to just install a 64-bit kernel and use a 32-bit userland and you get all of the same functionality.

I run Seti@ home and sha1 folding. I think there's some gain to be had there, no? 😛

Also, I'd like to get a sub-10 second super pi, however, I don't know if 64bit will help in that area.

So install the required 64-bit libraries on your 32-bit distro, as long as you have a 64-bit kernel there's nothing stopping you.
