Before I ask for my own help - maybe this thread could be used for all other future NewB's that need this kind of information. I hope it works and helps everybody.

Okay - my parts are on the way and I need all of your help to get up to speed. What I really want to know is each step I need to take after all the parts are installed - basically from first boot on - Raid, partitioning, bios tweaking/flasing, memory adj., agp, testing, burning, etc...

I really want to get into OCing, so if you guys could let me know what I need to do, and also what software I should get to test system, make a disk image, partition, and everything else that you pros use.

I should have everything by Monday, and I thought I would try and get everything I need now, before my parts arrive. Here is my system below. Threads/sites and all of your guys expert opinions are welcomed and would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Bah, don't listen to him, there is always a need to overclock.. :)

Once you get that setup going ( windows installed, drivers ) Run Prime 95, 3dmark, and do some gaming if you can...

If everything is stable the fun begins...

You hit Delete to enter the BIOS on most motherboards... Once inside of the BIOS you are looking for the FSB adjustments...You can pretty much go up by 3 or 5 mhz at a time...

After each time stress the CPU for at least 30 minutes to and hour...

Push further after that... Once you start to have a impressive overclock try and loop 3dmark all night, along with Prime 95...

:D

Thanks bjc112.
So after I install windows and drivers, I should Run Prime 95, 3dmark, and install some games to check for stability - (any particular game better than others)?

I also have a basic question - Is this the right order prior to tweaking/OCing:

1. Set-up Raid 0
2. Partition Hard Drives - Also after Raid 0 is set-up will I have an option to Partition it, as well as my other hard drive? - comments
3. Boot and Flash Bios
4. Update Chipset - is this neccesary
5. Install windows to 1st partition in Raid 0 - was thinking of installing in a 10 gig partition on Raid 0? - comments
6. Install all drvivers
7. Install Prime 95
8. Install 3dmark
9. Install games - which ones?
10. Start adjusting the FSB - 3-5 mhz at a time
11. Stress the CPU for 30 minutes-1 hour - What do I use and how do I stress the system/CPU.
12. Once you start to have a impressive overclock try and loop 3dmark all night, along with Prime 95.
13. Then what? - And when or do you adjust memory and the video card. Also, at what point do you image your brive for backup/restore?

OC'ing guide

This might help. Seems like it'll be a decent guide for the novice. However, this novice has only read the first page so far, so I really can't say :)

I would update the BIOS as soon as i get Windows booted up and ready to go...

Most motherboards include a utility that will let you know about temps and what not... (Can be useful when overclocking)

UT2003 is probably the most demanding game out CPU/GPU wise.

Prime 95 and 3dmark are great stress testers...

Prime 95 especially.

Once you get the system flashed with all drivers installed, thats normally the time to run that Ghost or backup proggy..

:D

good luck and come back for more help...

Thanks bjc112 - I appreciate the info.

Does anybody else have any input on the order of these steps.
