Frodo was an undisciplined non-hacker who couldn't take two steps without being propped up

What a wimp. If he had enjoyed his Hebrew National as much as that damn ring Middle Earth wouldn't have been wasted.

His only fortitude was running away from every problem.

Big battle, "now I'm here and now I'm not", fugging little wimp shoud have stayed and fought. :|

I venture to guess that I read the entire collection many times, front to back, before you were a pimple on your daddy's ass. 😉

That is a possibility, since the anonymity granted by the internet means that you may well be an AI version of J.R.R. Tolkien himself.

That said, "staying and fighting" seems to be an unwise choice for someone who has neither the mental nor the physical aptitude for war. Besides, if the ring got captured things would be bad...so running may well have been the appropriate choice.

Seriously, he did look like a pussy at times, but what do you expect from a hobbit? It was balls enough for him to take on the adventure in the first place!

How many blows to the skull have you sustained since then?

As has been pointed out by many others both in Off-Topic and in the real world, he wasn't doing too badly for someone who was fighting against the most corruptive influence of his world (the ring).

Not to mention he was a small fellow with (if I recall correctly) no real training in the use of arms.

Few who have found themselves in a combative situation have been trained adequately to not only defend themselves, but toi also gain victory on the battlefield. Battle experience comes from standing and fighting, not running or disappearing.

Frodo was portrayed as a gutless wimp, which he was because of his lack of training. The fact remains that he ran or hid rather than fight.. Wimp! 😉

I realize you're only partly serious, but what you say is really only valid for modern, literally point-and-shoot weapons.

Untrained peasants in the middle ages fighting trained knights didn't "learn from experience," they were simply mowed down.

Strategic withdraw are considered a valid military tactic 😛
