Floppies are still useful for BIOS flashing (if necessary) and stuff. I'd keep one around just in case.

You would have been better off getting a 9800 non-Pro instead of a 9600XT (they cost about the same), but whether you keep the 9600XT or try to return it is your decision.

Everything else looks fine, though if you're going to overclock you may want to ditch the 2500+ and get a mobile 2400+ or something like that (XP-M's have an unlocked multiplier and have more voltage headroom). I've heard that the Abit and DFI nForce2 boards are the best for overclocking, but the Shuttle and Asus boards are good as well.

You might want to boost your optical drive up to a black LiteOn CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive so you can watch DVDs, if that's anything you care about. It's not a lot more money. That case looks nice with black drives, so you might make sure to get a black floppy drive too.

The 120mm Stealth is probably not going to be much (if any) improvement on the stock 120mm rear exhaust fan. The stock fan is undoubtedly sleeve-bearing and might eventually begin to shudder & squeal after 1-2 years, but if you need to free up $11, there you go :)

Heh, those AthlonXP 2500+'s have really held their value... paid $96 for my retail one about ?1 year ago? and they're still in the $80's :)

Mobile 2400+ is unlocked, allowing more flexibility for overclocking because you can pick any combination of multiplier and bus speed that you want. For example, a stock desktop 2400+ runs at 2000MHz, which it gets by 15.0 x 133. The mobile 2400+ allows you to change both elements of that equation.

Whatever you get, make you set it up so the memory and CPU are clocked to the same speed. Clocking the memory at a different speed than the CPU will eat your performance bad. I tried 200MHz on the RAM with 166MHz on the CPU and my UT2003 Botmatch framerate dropped by about 20%. So resist the urge to run the RAM out-of-sync with the CPU.

Okay what's the watts diff one is 35w and the other 45w,and the fsb of those are 266 compared to 333 fsb!!! i don't know carp about oc cpu's or memory!! but if the 2400+ moblie is a better buy sounds good to me!!!!!!!!

Are you going to overclock? If so, get one of the mobiles, whichever you like. You could set their FSB to 333, or 400, or whatever you like, 266 is only their stock speed. 11.0 x 200 would give you 2200MHz, approximately AthlonXP 3200+ performance. And they'll probably go higher than that with the proper massaging. But your warranty will be void, so you pays your money and you takes your chances here :)

If you don't have a hardware firewall then pay attention to those tips on the Resources page so you don't get a Sasser/Blaster worm, too :)

If you are getting a 120 fan for the front, don't know if THIS PANAFLO will fit --it is 38mm deep -- but they are good fans. I would get some way to turn it down, maybe a zalman fanmate or rheostat.
