Great news, I was worried when it got moved to the Friday death slot, I'm actually half-amazed Fox didn't cancel it as that is their MO.

It's been pretty solid since they left the purely episodic crap & focused on continuing the main story alongside the episode.

like chuck and any number of series, once you get close to season 4(100 episodes) the possible syndication profits start outweighing the bad ratings.
Still kudos to fox given that WB actually owns fringe. Maybe wb gave them a discount on season 4 just so they could get those 100 in the can.

hope this is true:

The executive producer, Jeff Pinkner said: "We have six to eight seasons worth of material," he confirmed. "We see it as having certain chapters that would enrich the overall story, but aren't necessary to tell the overall story. God willing, the network allows us the time to tell our complete story."[32]

Does this show pick up after the first season? I keep hearing about it but couldnt get past the first 3 or 4 episodes. I thought the writing was pretty bad, they try so hard to sound serious and fail at it.

I liked that episodic crap 🙁. Weird psuedo-science is kinda fun if you suspend... well, your entire brain 😛.

They need to do both. Continue the story, and yet continue with what makes fringe unique. Otherwise it's nothing special. Because with all due respect, fringe is supposed to be more then a romantic drama between peter and olivia.

It does, indeed. I stopped watching after viewing a few eps in the first season and being royally unimpressed, but I DVR'ed this entire season so far on a hunch and just recently got around to watching them all and now I'm a committed fan.

Yeah, it's kind of odd like that. The girlfriend and I watched the first few episodes and found the characters - Olivia Dunham/Anna Torv in particular - to be pretty cold and dry. But we persisted and by the end of season one we now both consider her the best female character on television today: Smart, tough as hell, and without the stereotypical vulnerabilities writers often stoop to when writing lines for women.

Everyone else grew on us as well, with Walter Bishop/John Noble being the obvious standout. The show really hits its groove in the second season.
