Fringe or pseudo-science?

I'm talking about the stuff you might see on the TV show Fringe or even the X-Files. Basically experiments done to humans to make to try to give them some sort of special abilities or stuff like that.

Does this kind of stuff actually exist or is it all fiction? If it does exist, any good books or sources on it?

There are some medical devices that might improve your body's functions beyond their capabilities, but only when your body is already failing in some area (ie: you're suffering from an illness). The good thing is that in a couple of years, as we get closer and closer to the singularity, our bodies will be improved in ways you cannot even begin to imagine. We will acquire what we commonly call "superpowers", as long as they are within the limits of the laws of physics. You just need to wait....

You might want to be more specific about what stuff you mean.

Certainly nothing exists to give people ESP or telepathy, that kind of thing. Superhuman strength/speed might happen in the future, but not right now.

You might want to be more specific about what stuff you mean.

what i'm looking for is information on experiments that have been done to try to give these abilities to people. stuff that may have been top secret previously.

If anyone has seen Fringe, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Seriously, if this stuff is available and not a secret, it'd be pretty popular news (I'd guess). And if it is available and it is a secret, nobody here is going to be able to post anything that isn't anything more than fiction.

Alternatively stated, it is real. Yep. I've got the power to predict the future, and I'm going to prove that by showing that nobody will be able to post that they have fringe powers, including myself.

But I'd really like to be wrong, so no harm in trying.

There's a decent little blog called Polite Dissent that does reviews of Fringe. It's written by an M.D. and he likes to talk about "things they got wrong." His House reviews are pretty fun, I assume the Fringe stuff is similar. You can google it yourself, but in a nutshell the show "violates many of the basic tenets of biology, chemistry, and physics without any explanation."

We've stopped watching the show, but I think a lot of stuff on Fringe breaks the Laws of Physics. It's just TV.

As odd as some of his replies are, I think his comment about singularity is spot-on.
Our progress continues to incorporate more and more technology. In time, more technology will find its way into our bodies. We already have the ability to craft artificial bones, and even artificial hearts. Given enough time, I'm certain we will be able to out-engineer nature, such as creating a heart capable of working for twice as long as a normal human lifespan.

Artificial intelligence capable of out-thinking us is just a matter of time. Whether or not it will be benevolent will depend greatly on how we go about creating it.

People always hope that their children will be better-off, and smarter than they themselves are. This technological offspring would just be the next step.

All fiction. Some pseudo-science experiments have been done, (read the nazi twin expeiments for some horrific examples) but all they ever really accomplish is torturing and killing their patients.

You will have to find someone with a closet full of "National Inquirer" just like the writers of these shows do. Soon we will see a "Batboy" or Monster Hog" show as they run low on material. Or just Google " junk science".

i don't care if the experiments failed, i'd just like to read about all the weird shit that has been done.

We have them, windmills, hydro-electrical dams, sailboats, that sun powered spinner in the glass globe, etc. As long as the wind blows, rain falls, sun shines.
