frikken Counter Strike disconnects me from the internet when it's at Done Precaching

great, i upgrade to winme, and i start getting this. what can i do to fix it? it never used to do this in win98. the only thing that's different is probably the os and maybe my dsl modem which isn't in use.

how can you play CS when your modem isn't in use ? perhaps I'm missing something. Are you trying a lan game ?

No, ok, this is what happens:

i connect to the internet (with a 56k dialup)
i open up gamespy
i refresh the servers
i click a server to join
it starts to connect
it starts to precache
once it hits "Done precaching," BOOM, i get disconnect from the internet.

sorry man, I've never heard of that happening before. does this happen when you try to load a game that is not CS like Gassworks 🙂
also try a lan game see if it happens there too.

did the same thing to me...I reinstalled HL and it worked just fine...save your patches and configs before you reinstall... 🙂

What's the error message that Counterstrike returns to you? If it roughly goes along the lines of "Unable to make connection", this means that's the server you connected to gave up on your connection because it took your computer too long to cache everything before entering the game.

Happens to make every time I join a new server, it shouldn't be too big a deal. Once I get disconnected, I just connect to the server again. My computer has still retained most of the cached information in memory, so I'm able to enter the game without trouble this time...my system specs are linked below. The problem is accounted to by my insufficient amount of RAM, I strongly suspect.

half life doesn't tell me anything. once it hits "Done precaching" i hear a click, which means my modem disconnected. but anyways, i decided to trash win me, and i'm fraggin again in counter-strike.
