the weird thing is some hearing impaired people are anti-cochlear implants. Not sure why you wouldn't want to improve your life but whatever.

I made cochlear software as a senior design in college, it's pretty cool stuff.

Deaf people typically do not consider deafness to be a "disability" that needs to be corrected and that the life enrichment that comes from being a part of Deaf Culture provides greater benefit than the ability to hear sounds.

What I don't get is deaf people ostracizing/persecuting those that wish to get implants...but I can certainly see why a deaf person may choose not to do so.

probably the same reason that a lot of blind people reject attempts to give them sight. The world that they have always known, suddenly changing, can be traumatic for anyone.

Definitely a cute video! Hard to beat a mother's bond with an infant.

Pardon my ignorance, but is the wire looking thing behind the boy's head hooked up to his implant? Or are they able to 'activate' the cochlear implant wirelessly? Either way pretty incredible...

they've been sold the pc lie that everythings equal for far too long. sound is fundamental to experience, never being able to hear music, or voice is missing a massive chunk of human experience. its a huge disability.

Great point, I think I was being a little close-minded. I completely agree on your second point.
