So its that happy time of year again! You know, when the weather changes, the rug rats at your kids daycare get sick, and your children bring that stuff home with them?

Well, the gods hath deemed that 3 bouts of norovirus in the Sho'Nuff home was not enough, and therefore blessed us with a fourth, more vicious version. Gah! 4 straight days of being nearly tied to a toilet, and going on a fifth. With nothing to be done except utter "please sir may I have another" between each bowel/gastric evacuation.

On the plus side - I've lost 8 lbs in the last 3 days. Another 12 days and I'll be down to my ideal weight.

Nothing you can do, we've been going through this for over 15 years.

One thing I will tell you, drink LOTS of water stay hydrated.

Also, it gets better. Your body eventually gets immune to it (it takes years). I'm at a point where I feel it coming, but it never comes.

My wife hasn't been as lucky with being immune but her symptoms are NOTHING like they used to be.

First couple of years were just horrible on us.....literally wouldn't mind just dying.

So keep your head up and keep that in mind. It gets better.

I haven't gotten it for over 3-4 years now, while my kids still get it mildly on yearly basis.

I think I'm immune. (knocks on wood). I get the initial symptoms, and it's gone. If I get sick, it last two days, not 5-7.

Dang, I thought you had the 411 on a new computer virus. Just run Malwarebytes on yourself and reboot.

Yep

First few times it was 10+ days for me of constant HELL. I literally felt like I was dying. Heck wouldn't actually mind at the time....

It gets better...just keep drinking water and let your immune system get used to it.

You need the Live version with the Vitamin C plugin, if you aren't doing proactive scanning then there's always a chance something will slip in

We had at least three rounds of it last year around this time. All brutal. One was enough to earn me a trip to the ER for IV fluids. Kindergarten teacher sent a home a note yesterday that three kids on the room went home with the diahhrea so I'm bracing for the fun to begin. We started it almost 6 years in the daycare rooms so at some point I hope my body starts to build up an immunity.

I got it at work last year and gave it to the whole family. Thankfully it was a 24 hr thing but boy, I don't remember ever feeling this sick.

Good luck.

After infection, immunity to norovirus is usually incomplete and temporary[7] with one publication drawing the conclusion that protective immunity to the same strain of norovirus lasts for six months, but that all such immunity is gone after two years.[8]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norovirus

I've had it twice in the last couple years. Hopefully I'm somewhat protected from whatever strain is going around and no new strains are emerging. The last time, my wife and I were having to sleep in adult diapers on top of plastic. Worst week ever.

My wife teaches preschool; over 2 days 50 kids at her school were home sick. I told her to stay at her parents.

had a pretty serious outbreak back when I was in the army, within a week personnel was reduced by almost 80%. I've never gotten it for real I think, a bit of diarrhea for the evening but that's about it.

Got norovirus last year. I bet the strain made it way to your neck of the woods. Its not a pleasant one.

I didn't eat for 3 days, not eating is really the only thing that made me feel better. I just let myself get dehydrated until I was thirtsy enough to keep it down, it was the only way for me. Just had to trust my body knew wtf it was doing on managing fluid. I'd drink 2oz be unable to keep it down and up came 4oz++ can't keep that up for long.

Same as everyone else the worst of it lasted 2-3 days and Couldn't really eat for about 5 days. Last 2 days I was able to sip Gatorade/juice and felt exponentially better. I felt fantastic for weeks afterward.

Well, at least you have a sense of humor about it! :)

having my child in daycare starting this year has brought many Rhinoviruses, but none of the noro kind. Needless to say it still hasnt been fun.
