*snip*

No I haven't been downloading torrents or pr0n, all I did was download the games from the Square Enix bundle on HumbleBundle. Now my internet is near useless until they decide to stop screwing me. Last time I let the speed test run it measured a .03 Mbps. Woo...

That seems....very strange. I don't get anything like that at all, download a bunch and zero throttling, all 60mbps the whole time. Have you talked to them about it?

What makes you think they are throttling?

What do the modem logs and signal strength look like?

no place like 192.168.100.1

Check your RF signals, SNR on both upstream and downstream.
If you have a DOCSIS 3 modem you should have four or more downstream channels and possibly as many as four upstream.

Unplug the modem for a minute or two and try again.

Also get off wireless and use a cord to test it before blaming the provider even though they can be known to call you dirty words on the bill and charge cockbag levels for services you don't need.

Supposed to be getting 20/5...and I do get the 20 down when I'm not getting throttled.

What happens if you reboot your modem? Maybe the connection is unstable.

Connection is fine, rebooting the modem and/or wireless components doesn't change anything. As you can see upload speeds are not affected, only the download speeds are throttled.

I get my rated speed, until I download to much and it suddenly drops to nothing and stays there until a new billing cycle.

No idea where/how to see modem logs, signal strength and connection are fine as far as I can tell.

Don't know how to check RF or SNR...dunno if it's DOCSIS 2 or 3. As I mentioned in another reply unplugging/waiting doesn't change anything. I have tried dragging an old laptop up there to plug it in, it's got a 10/100 ethernet and it displays the same issue. Upload speeds are fine.

I'm pretty certain the download speeds are being throttled on purpose.

I just switched from Bright House, (TWC) to U-verse and my internet during peak hours is a f-ing joke, then during the holidays they ran a "free preview" of HBO and Cinemax, I got this months bill and found an extra $27 tacked on, my "free" preview turned into a subscription I didn't ask for. Looks like they will be getting a call from me tomorrow and they can credit me the $27 or come the fuck over here and pick up their shit. IMHO every provider out there is full of crappy, overloaded networks, worse customer service and finding ways to tack more charges on to your bill in any way possible, makes me want to hurl.

That's not actually my modem IP, I do know how to log into it...but there are very few options in the interface. I can select wireless and encryption type, I can sow/hide SSID and a few other random tidbits. I don't recall seeing anything like a log file.

Are you talking about your modem or your router? :D

This sounds like you're logging into your router, not the modem - but it could be a combination. Modem brand/model?

It's a combo cable modem with wireless router and VOIP
I'll try to figure out the make/model...it's Comcast branded.

SB6580

Your SN ratio or power are not in spec. Your large download is making the modem do more work, causing the symptoms.

What type of cable do you have going from the outlet to the modem? Any splitters installed or removed?

Best to have a tech come out and take a look.

I didn't read every post, but try speed testing over lan instead of wlan.

if you login to your account on comcast.net, you can find usage and cap information.

They're not talking about your modem IP, or it's configuration options. Those are on the subnet 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x (usually at .1). The subnet at IP 192.168.100.x accesses the WAN-side interface, and provides stats on the connection to the cable provider.

Nope, not a Motorola SB6580, looks like it might be an Arris TG8xx unit.

I actually do know what the cable is like, since I disconnected all the unused stuff. It comes from the line to a box outside, in there is a single 2 way splitter with two lines of RG6. One goes up about 10-15 ft through the wall to the plate the modem is connected to (another 6ft or so RG6 between the wall plate and modem). The other line from the outside splitter runs around the house and up the wall into a plate for a living room TV.

LOL now that is a neat trick...do a speed test with Comcast and it starts out slow and then kicks up speed quickly and gives me what I should get. 16-20 Mbps averaging 18 (and again averaging 5Mbps upload). I noticed everything runs fine when I do this, so I ran the test a few times and it seems to hold my speed up. I'll just continue doing this for now.

Comcast does some weird stuff with the config.

Might be 10.0.0.0.1
