friendster alternative

It's hard getting enough people to actually use Friendster... why would they want to get on here too ?

friendster.com

You sign up and link your friends by inviting them (or them inviting you) via e-mail. You have a page of a profile and a picture of yourself. The idea is that you meet new people who are connected with your network of friends, and it shows the degrees of separation for every profile you look at outside your list of friends. Pretty cool concept, the site is in beta and it's pretty slow.

yeah but the only problem is if you havnt noticed.. friendster is slow as $hit and they are going to charge for basic services soon.

Then they will probably just fail.

heh heh...

dont forget fiendster (links u and ur enemies together)

and the hilarious std-ster (links what venereal diseases you got and from who 😉)

Their site says after beta, basic membership is free, but some features require a subscription. I'm not sure what that means.

I'm guessing you'll have to pay if you want to be able to contact people.

everything about it is still free. though there are rumors that in the future you might have to pay to message people, but that's why we have aim don't we? 🙂

I still haven't quite found the point of Friendster. It's not quite a messenging service, it expands way too much to show that I have...wow, 73,000 "friends" who are either looking for a quick hookup (male) or to show off their body (female). Mostly, thus far, it's just been a lot of bad photos of people snarling at the camera with no information posted, and a really sad, rudimentary thread-posting system.

Heck, I'm still just looking for a decent late-night chat replacement program. Yahoo ain't it. And unless Friendster amps up their service options without charging for it (ha!) - that account's going to collect dust.

Ah well, what can ya do?

Yup, and just like eBay.

Plenty of people use Friendster but my guess is the majority of the people will be using an alternative site once they start charging money.

I found through Friendster that my close cousin is friends with this 1 person who is also friends with another cousin of mine. In other words... my 2 cousins don't know each other (different sides of the family), but they are connected through 1 friend.

Friendster is pretty cool... so long as people sign up on it. It's not like they have to use it afterward... just establish the profile at the very least and you could be shocked who knows who.
