Friends PC freezes at startup!

When trying to boot normally it freezes at the point where you can choose which user to login as everytime! I have also tried booting into safe mode and as the desktop is loading, it freezes every time. I know the video card is new, this issue was happening before the video card swap out. I have tried 15 or so times to boot up and get no where! My buddy stated he hasn't been able to get it booted up in 2 days of attempts. Any suggestions/thoughts? Thanks!!!

Either windows is corrupted due to viruses etc, or you have a bad hard drive.

Run hard drive diagnostics from a bootable CD and if you come out clean try recovering to a previous restore point. There are tutorials on the web for that.

I was thinking a virus as well. I just found out that the hard drive is actually new. It was just installed from Geek Squad a month or so ago. Will try a bootable disk and go from there. I did find out he was using Lime Wire to download music and other stuff, so chances are it's a virus. Thanks for the help!

Try booting in Safe Mode. If that works OK, then your problem is probably a bad or corrupted driver - and that is a different diagnosis procedure.
