Friends new Liteon 52x cdrw not burning cdrs

I just bought a friend a 52x lite-on cdrw. He had 1 cdrw and tried it out after the install and it worked great. He's tried 2 different brands of cdrs, not 52x, and it tells him he's using the wrong type of media. Is there a setting or should I send the drive back? Buying cdrws would get pretty expensive...that's what he's concerned about...I gave him 2 more brands to try out, and haven't heard back from him about this yet...any suggestions?

is the media you're trying to use rated for a lower speed? try burning them at a lower speed, see if that does it.

he's using the wrong type of media
Is he using the right application for cdr's?
Maybe he's trying to use direct-cd/in-cd/ etc. with it?
The little Windows pop-up that asks you what you want to do with the media could probably be configured to use the wrong application.?
Just guessing:frown:

He's using the Nero that came with it...doesn't have any other burning programs on his computer, as this is his first cd burner. The cdr's I gave him are not 52x...I think they are 32x...will have to stop by and check it out...

nero is a pretty good burning app. my guess would be the media. if you get your hands on some 52x discs and nero still doesn't want to burn at full speed, there's something else more serious wrong.

He said the cdr's I gave him give the same error message...He's also describing the burning program that sounds nothing like Nero...I asked if he had the little cd people on his screen. He just said he had 1 icon he clicked on and the clicked to burn. When I go over there, I should probably enable dma? I'm assuming? also maybe he didn't install Nero correctly? He's not the most computer literate person out there...

Definately something wrong inbetween the chair and the keyboard.. Sounds like he may not be getting the Nero wizard when he launches the program. If he is running XP, he could be trying to use XP's built in burning utility. Either way, You need to go over and set him straight.
