Had the same problem and ended up being when you turn the power button on the back of the power supply or plug in the power cord it only runs for a few seconds......then you have to use the on/off button in the front of your case to start it up......also I am running PC133 ram and had to set it to PC100 in the bios.....and of course the multiplier has to be set correctly not as the book says because that is a misprint. Only the fourth switch should be opposite of the others ( for a 700 Duron ).

hotwire... even when it only runs for a few secs, just hit the power button and it will stay on. Change in bios to poweron after a/c power loss. Muskie, tell your friend to make sure he hasnt got all his stuff plugged in. Try it with just ram, hdd, floppy, video card, and cd-rom. I've had several occasions where boards would not boot becuase they had a sound card in them or a scsi card in them. After that first boot, everything was fine, just wouldnt start that first time with em. Also, make sure the power switch "clicks". I spent an hour last night pulling the front off of a new case because it had been banged around by UPS (pronounced oops) and the switch was damaged. Slapped in another switch and the puteys fine.
