Friend's monitor keeps on blacking out

My friend has a Hyundai Imagequest Q910 monitor and the picture keeps on flashing on and off. The monitor itself doesn't turn off, but the screen just turns black for a moment and then comes back, sometimes doing it continuously many times in a row.
Any idea what might cause this in a monitor?
 
Is the connector from the monitor to the video card secure? It might be a bad video card, so try swapping in another one to see if he continues to get the problem. Hope this helps.

What is offgassing?
Offgassing is the release of chemicals from non-metallic substances under ambient or greater pressure conditions. Offgassing occurs continuously, but can be limited by the complete curing of polymeric material. As an example, offgassing (and the subsequent condensation of polymeric material) is responsible for the white film which occurs on the windows of new automobiles.
