Updated all programs (norton, windows, spyware proggies), and ran everything... It's showing nothing out of the ordinary.

Its a P4 2.8ghz w/ 512mb Ram... Not all that much running at the moment, just Norton IS, Micro. Anti Spyware, etc...

Any other things i should check for?

is it actually recognizing all of the memory in it? how much memory is currently being used? what are the top three most active processes?

My Computer shows 448mb, but the vid card shares 64mb.

Top processes of 44 currently running; (sort by CPU)

System Idle (dunno if this would count 🙂)
Tasmgr
gcasDtServ.exe
Explorer (keeping jumping up and down)

Sorted by Mem;
svchost.exe - 23mb
iexplore - 23mb
explorer - 22mb
ccapp.exe - 13mb
gcasDtServ.exe - 11mb
gcasServ.exe - 7mb

i guess gcasdtserv.exe is the antispyware. it really shouldn't be all that active at all. i haven't used that particular one though. maybe it'll settle down after a bit if you just started using it?

You know what is weird, I'm having the same exact problem with MS Anti-Spyware using up a lot of the CPU and making this laptop I'm working on crawl to a halt. I'm wondering if there is something going on with the MS program?

I am not a Microsoft hater, but their programs do tend to be resource hogs & be targeted for malicious programs' attacks. I would uninstall that new MS program if it were my lappy, because that lappy should be running with good speed.

Another vote for the uninstallation of MS Anti Spyware. Just installed it on a coworkers' lappy and it grinded to a halt.

Just get Spybot and make sure it's regularly updated.

Something weird i noticed... Using CPU-Z i noticed that his ram was reporting as PC2300... Was there ever a PC2300?
