Friend's laptop is somewhat FUBARed after reverting to win 7 from win 10

A friend of mine upgraded her laptop from win 7 to win 10 before she read about the issues people were having. Well, she wound up reverting back to 7 with help from her brother-in-law, an IT guy. They got most things back but they can't get the video out of VGA mode. The went to the Acer's site and re-downloaded/installed the vid driver, but no luck. Anyone have an idea of how to fix this? Is this the right forum for this or should this get moved to the video card or Windows forums? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Laptop model?
Some manufacturers include additional utilities besides the drivers. For example, programs to enable all the special function keys.

EDIT: Some other thing,

Does the notebook support switchable graphics? This is the ability to use both on board gpu and dedicated gpu. If the notebook supports this, it should display two gpus in device manager(http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02731962).
The OS switches from one to the other. If this is the case, you need to go back to the manufacturer's website and install the other gpu driver also.

Though, only the 5750G version seems to support nvidia optimus(switchable graphics), better still check device manager.
Install the acer LaunchManager application! You'll find this on the 5750 driver download page, at the Application tab.

Yeah, look at the label on the labtop and see which 5750 it is. There are 4 5750s and 2 5755s.
