It's sick. It used to be 10/1 and now Optimum Online is increasing it to 15/2 - no additional charge. I think it's due to the competition with Verizon FIOS (fiber). It should be upgraded in my area as well very soon. I was at his house over the weekend putting a new computer together for him and had to download a few things obviously. It was sick speed. It was downloading at like 1.3-1.4MB/sec (1300-1400kbps) consistantly. I can't wait!

He should be getting ~1.8MB/sec - has he ran any broadband tweaks?

That's fast, though..much faster than mine..

Edit: Nice upload..:Q

Yup, I have Optonline and we got something like that.

Optonline is also offering BOOST for +$15 a month I believe which gets you 30 down.

Great.. Here in Texas with our Time Warner monopoly, the best we can get is 8mbps for twice the cost of 5mbps.

I'll have to look into that. I'd maybe pay that...

BUT WILL THEY STILL CAP YOU FOR EXCESSIVE USE ? I capitalize that because nobody has willingly answered this question... they were known to cap when they offered 10/1... if you don't get to use it as you wish, what's the point really ? Marketing. I hope for his sake he doesn't get capped after going full throttle for only an hour like the rest of us. When he does, they'll tell you it was because of something else. Can't stand them.

Look at the crap people are STILL going through.

Cablevision is a POS company.

If Verizon would hurry up with FIOS, I'd switch the same day.

They cap for excessive use UPSTREAM, but you can have your connection humming full speed 24/7 downstream and they won't say a word.

This is true, but we don't all use newsgroups. The simple fact that we have to mind our internet connection at all (every hour?!) when paying nearly $50/mo. for it is ridiculous. I would jump through hoops for free services and never complain, but them... I will never stop b!tching until they do business the right way. Did I mention they won't admit to this ?

No, they don't cap for EXCESSIVE upstream. They cap for the slightest use of full upstream bandwidth. People will often get capped for doing nothing more than simply using their full upstream bandwidth for 45 minutes.

Therein lies more problems... I was once capped even though netlimiter kept my connection from EVER using full throttle. :| You play by their supposed rules and you still get sh!t on.

I've been capped at 20kb/s up for a while now, haven't called them about it yet.

I've found those speed tests to be very unreliable. More reliable is uploading to a friend whose d/l beats/matches your u/l, and downloading something big from a reliable site with a fat pipe like M$.

Wow, that sucks. Were also going through stupid crap with Rogers and Shaw with their excessive port throttling. BT is dead now. POS isp.
