A friend of mine (Michael Ng) was also in one of these situations. He chartered a boat in the Sea of Cortez in MX and during one of the 'calm' days, a freak storm hit their boat. The boat capsized in no time and while at least 5 people died, my friend found an ice cooler floating in the water and clung on to it for over 16 hours until he was rescued.
