Socket AM2 CPU's, DDR2 RAM, and Motherboards cost the same as socket 939. As a benefit to AM2 there is no end of life issue. Second have him wait untill July 23, that is when AMD will slash prices by at least half.

I probably wont be buying from FS/FT since it's a build for a friend and dont wanna be dealing with possible hassles and defects...
Im a frequent visitor at Hot Deals so I will be on the look out there... thx guys..

Actually, I dont think my friend wants to wait till end of July just to save some money on CPU... what do u guys think of the build at top?... Could someone show me a AM2 build..?

He only has to wait 2 and half weeks untill AMD drops the prices. Stick it out and it will be well worth it. On the 23rd of July you will be able to get a 3500+ for the price of a 3000+. And Dual Core 3800+ will have an MSRP of $169 (the Egg will more than likely have it for less)

thanks for that price list link googer, thats very helpful!

I will also be waiting for the price cuts by AMD to get an AM2 proccy 😀

I think the tax and shipping would add up to be a lot.. probably a total of 570ish? just an estimate.

grr tax and shipping!!

AM2 just pushed end of life out a year or two....doesn't eliminate it, ddr3 will be here before we know what to do because the manf will need another reason to make a format change to drain our pockets....

just like agp 8x, i doubt it is even tapped out yet with a single x1900xt......

i was looking at power supplies.

the Fortron got some good reviews.

CoolerMaster 430, $34
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817171007

Thermaltake 430, $40, $30 with the rebate

anyway, if that helps save $20 ... the 250 GB 16 MB cache SATA Maxtor's were $75. i think.

going the other direction (getting more expensive)

antec 500 watt, $70

God, going to be able to get a heck of a system for $500.

oh, saw this too ~

OCZ "Premier" 2-3-2-5 DDR400, 2 x 512, $80 after rebate

I cannot understand why so many people rely on newegg.com revews. Those revews are heavly filtered and truthful ones are often deleted by newegg.com so they don't hurt sales. for more honest reviews than you get at newegg.com goto tomshardware.com
