Friends & Enemies: an interesting thing that occurred to me

I have some really interesting thoughts when I mow my yard. Go figure. Anyway, on to the meat of this thread:

It occurred to me the other day that I can remember that the guy who punched me in the stomach in kindergarten was named Steve, but I can't remember the names of my two best friends from back then. In my junior high years, a couple of guys named David and Roger tormented me every day, but I have to struggle to recall the guys I was good friends with. The same thing happens when I try to remember friends from virtually any period of my life, but I remember vividly people who were my enemies even in small ways.

This makes me feel like I'm carrying a lot of grudges, and that I don't forgive people easily. That really bugs me. Also, maybe I don't appreciate my friends like I should, which bugs me a lot too.

Is anyone else like this, or is something screwed up in my wiring?

we tend to remember things that hurt more cause they stand out further in our memories.

an electrical shock will be remembered longer than a abirthday card.

maybe we evolved to remember things we should fear better than things we should love as a survival mechanism.

I guess that is somewhat true. I still do remember just about all of my good friends, even back in elementary school. But I also remember my enemies, no matter how short of a time I knew them.
