Friends Computer won't start up.

So a friend of mine, who for some reason can't make make these posts through a tablet or cellphone is asking me to make this post for himself. v-v


Anyways, his computer will turn on for about a 'second or so' and then turn off almost immediately. The fans will spin beforehand and there are no beeps. Any clue what could be wrong with it?

I keep suggesting seeing if he can try a different power supply unit, but I don't know what to say if that isn't the issue (how would you go about testing the motherboard to check for problems?). I have no physical access to machine and am pretty much telling you all what he has told me btw. :/

Power supply, grounding issue, or internal connection problem. A lot of it would depend on what was going on right before the issue occurred, and whether or not we are dealer with a custom-built machine.

Another thing to look at are connections. If the case has USB connections attached to the board, unplug it from the board and see what happens.

Custom Built, I believe he disconnected all USB Devices, and even went as far as disconnecting the monitor with about the same results? I'll have to ask again.

If I recall his specs were, a Core i7 Extreme Edition (I don't remember which generation) an SSD, I forgot his motherboard (since I helped pick it out but couldn't remember what it was), his PSU is a CoolerMaster 1000 platinum and god knows what the graphics card was. They were all pretty high end parts at the time.

Might have to go hardcore on this and remove video card and sound card and cd drive and hard drive connections as well. start from scratch.

turn pc on with just memory in and motherboard and nothing else.
if same thing happens then confirm powersupply is good. Check powersuppy by taking a paper cliip and unbending it into a "U" shape and put one side into the green wire outlet and the other into any black wire outlet on the powersupply.... If power supply still shuts off after turning it on via the paperclip method then you have a bad powersupply. If power supply stays on via paper clip method then you have a bad motherboard.
