friends computer problem

My friends computer worked fine until we did a clean install of windows xp and then for a few days it was ok, but now most of the time everything powers up but there's no image on the monitor. The monitor's light blinks constantly. I think his monitor is dying. Anyone else have an idea? It's an HP Pavilion with a Geforce 6600gt and thermaltake power supply. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not quite sure it's the monitor that is dying. If the light blinks on the monitor, it's pretty much a sign that it is receiving no signal from the video card. Try a different monitor?

I agree...Im not sure this is an indication that you have a defective monitor. Could be a graphics card issue..may want to try to reseat the card..also..what kind of monitor...CRT or LCD?...analog or Digital? If its a LCD that supports both analog and digital make sure that the display is set to the appropriate input. If its a blinking light at POST...its not an OS system/driver problem. It is possible that you could have a failing Power supply also.

Worked with a different monitor, also worked with onboard graphics once the graphics card was taken out. But the original problem remains, as well as an error with the built in firewire controller.

Make sure all your drivers are updated...
I had this problem awhile ago...
Suddenly on startups my LCD was showing nothing until the windows login screen...
I updated graphics drivers and *poof* no more problem...
Note it happened on several different occasions and it was always when I was messing with the system doing something...
But again, update drivers...
...

.

What kind of monitor are you using?

I just had this problem not too long ago with the viewsonic vx2025, and i ended up using DVI recover to fix the problem. Everything would work with the analog input, but i would get no signal with DVI.

Just a thought.
