his computer turned off by itself over the weekend. upon turning it back on the monitor doesnt come on, the mouse's laser doesnt go on, the power led on the case doesnt come on, but the cpu fan and video card fan are running along with the power supply fan. it just sits there no video on monitor like that. its a 400w antec. i tried another video card, same problem, and i borrowed an old 300w psu from a buddy and same thing, but it might be bad to begin with. do i need to buy a new powersupply or what? btw there is no error beeping on the motherboard and the LED diagnostic panel inside the mobo says FF which means everthing is good. its an epox 8rda+ any ideas?

Most likely the CPU went bad or the motherboard went bad.

Does the system beep at all when you turn it on??

find a psu that you are sure works. otherwise, its seems like the motherboard.

It is hard to diagnose a bad CPU. Your gut feeling is normally the Power Supply, and it is a real pain to remove the CPU. You almost need an extra motherboard just to test the CPU. I had an Athlon XP2400 go bad on me so I replaced it with an Athlon 1.2Gig I had laying around and it seemed to just run a little slower, but it is still running. One way to test this is with another CPU.

I had to take the motherboard out of the case just to work on it.

hmm i just tested both power supplys with that power supply tester thing and the green light came up for both so i guess they are both good? how accurate are those testers in saying if its really good?
