I have been trying to assist him through MSNIM.....

My firends comp wont post. He has an AMD64 3200+ on an ASUS K8V Deluxe. When he boots up his box he gets nothing to teh screen. He has checked teh vid card (good), monitor (good), ram in each slot (and swapped to single sticks. When he hits power everything seems to spin up but absiolutely nothing goes to screen. He is running it on a tiger 300 watt PSU.

Can anyone think of any other things he could do or check?

BTW..he had teh same problem with an MSI board. He sent back everything so all this stuff is replacement. I am concerned that he may have made a mistake in construction of the system, but am to far to check it myself. With the old board it actually worked for like a week before going nose up, and he then sent all the stuff back since teh vendor couldnt helpo him sort out the issue. ANy advice wouyld be apopreciated.

Too many "tehs."

Any beeps? Has he tried another video card? Another PSU? Another CPU?

Do the fans spin up then down or do they continue running?

Eliminate all possible problems and start from scratch... Bare MB, CPU, single stick of RAM, video, and MB power. Make sure any jumpers on the MB are in the right place. Even a problem system will usually beep so even if he's not getting video maybe a beep code will point to a problem.

what video card does he have? Is the additional power connector connected? (If it has one)
Can he try the system with another power supply?

One trend with the --excuse me, teh Asus K8V family is that teh owners fail to plug in teh ATX12V cable and as a result, teh computer displays a blank screen, y0.

Also... come ON, a generic-ish 300W PSU for a nice high-end computer like that?! :frown: Get a nice Enermax or Antec in the ~400W range, is my advice. The higher teh better, but first of all make it quality, quality, quality. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

More info on teh hardware could be helpful too. What brand, what model. 🙂

mechBgon, could you please make teh font in teh picture a little bigger? I can't read it.
LOL! 😀 Actually, you can't read it because it's written in Spanish :Q Am I sneaky, or what? 😀

Ok ok...get off my tehs! I have no idea why I always tupe it that way. I know I am way to lazy to spell check though. He is running a 9800 Pro for a vid card. He has been able to verify that everything works, well besides the chip and board. We'll see if he has that extra ATX plugged in. I already had him check the jumpers, and he said they were good.

and TEH saga continues.

Ok, with the 9800 Pro in the picture, I'm definitely putting my main bet on the Tiger 300W PSU not being able to hack it.

Your friend should look into getting a better PSU in teh range of 350 watts or higher. Teh AMD 64's and today's newer video cards tend to suck up teh power. 😎

We're just joshin' ya. If we really meant it, we wouldn't try to help. 😉
