My friend's Civic was stolen from his own sidewalk during the night when he was out. He had a n alarm AND a clutch club on. How were they able to steal it??

If I wanted to take off a clutch club I'd probably use an abrasive cut off wheel mounted in a battery powered circular saw.

I remember hearing years ago that the criminals would have tow trucks and they'd just pull up with it steal the car that way.
I have no way of verifying it but how hard is it to buy a tow truck?

If they drove off with it, they could use a hacksaw and cut the steering wheel allowing them to slide off the club. And there are electronic devices that will override any car alarm.

they don't even have to use a saw, this was discussed here before I think and a link was given to a device that clamps to the club, then you manually crank it and it snaps the club in half.

can't find it atm but I swear I read about it here.

My Civic was stolen in 1990, got it back 3 days later. I didn't have comprehensive so had to pay for towing as well a new window and ignition switch.

Civic's are one the most highly stolen vehicles. People want them for their parts.

my friend had a civic that he suped up and what not. got stolen, and I assume some parts were taken before it was set ablaze. he had photos of the torched remains once it was found.

sure but they are also highly stolen because they are everywhere! just cross the street and you could probably find a civic that would be faster to steal.
i wonder what civic stealing tricks are out there because of its popularity. i wonder how they defeat clutch locks... maybe use a large metal cutter and cut the pedal off and slide it off? i dunno.

Club can be bypassed by cutting the plastic steering wheel, popping the pin in many clutch pedals, or just brute forceing the lock...there is tons of write ups on bypassing these gimmicks.

As far as an alarm goes, most are installed so poorly it's amazing they work.

Possibly these thieves were looking for a particular year, color, etc.
