Friend works Ford, should I buy one?

He can get me their special pricing which is like 5% or 10% below dealer invoice price. I'm a Honda fan and have had mine since 1997 and its really getting up their in mileage. I have never considered anythng other thana Honda until he told me he could get me his special pricing on any Ford vehicle. What would you get?

I would not have said this just a couple of months ago, but drive a Taurus, esp a SES.

The real negative is thaat is will depreciate like mad the first two years. If the giuy can get you a hella deal on the car and the extended warranty, I'd really consider it. If not, get another Honda, it's hard to wrong there if you can afford it.

If he can get you a killer deal on a used Taurus do that. Because of that depreciation, you can get some low miles 2 or 3 year old cars for about 10K, that's what i did. I never took them seriously, but for the price of a used Focus, the Taurus is a much nicer car.

Does it *have* to be a ford, or can it be one of ford's spin off's as well? I'd take any SVT vehicle they had on the lot, nor would I kick an Escape out of my garage 🙂

I've heard of that program. It can probably be one of the other "Fords" as well, such as Mazda. 😀

Ask him!

That's what I was wondering. If so...HELLO mazda 6! (or RX8 😀)

No kidding, my friend has a "Lightning". It doesnt have truck tires, it's lowered and really cant be used as truck, sucks gas like mad, and I'd love to have one.

The Escapes are sweet too, if only they'd supercharge it....

It can be anything related to Ford. So if I wanted to splurge i could go for an Aston Martin or jag. The depreciation is w3hat scares me to and it has to be a new car. I was thinking maybe one of teh Volvos or mazdas? Remember the initial idea was to save money a by a decent ride that will last. If need be I could splurge a bit though if I can justify somehow.

There's only a couple vehicles that you could buy that would escape sh!tty resale IMHO

Here they are -
- Mazda RX8
- Thunderbird
- SVT Cobra
- SVT Lightning
- F150 Extended cab 4x4
- To a lesser extent the Escape (not as good as a Honda CR-V, but not bad)

Other than those, they all have pretty craptastic resale values.

Check out the Mazda Tribute. If it's the same price to buy new, the Tribute could come out a few hundred dollars ahead of the Ford Escape at trade-in/sellin' time. Check that one out if you're interested in an SUV.

Now that i think of it, dont get the Escape, get the Mazda Tribute if you go that route. Same vehicle, better resale and warranty.

Vi, what about the Harley?

I get the same discount through their VPP, but the reason I haven't taken advantage of it is because I don't want any of them. I think the Explorer Sport Trac would be the best bet if I did though...

Don't forget they throw in all these crazy calculations which probably give you a total of about a $2k savings (plus no hassle with haggling) as opposed to without the "discount".

Yeh, forgot about the tribute. It does a bit better than the escape. The sport trac doesn't do half bad either.

Not really sure on the Harley. It's really expensive to begin with, so it's got more to depreciate.

i think its A-plan (might be X), and you could use if for a mazda 6 if you want

heres the thing... i'm pretty certain its the ford factory thats taking the hit on the car, not the dealer... so the dealer might be willing to negotiate even further if you do things right, like showing up on a wednesday right near the end of the month (any weekday with crappy weather would be good)... ford dealer offered me $2000 for my old taurus (which was about to have the transmission fall out of it, that car wasn't worth anything) if i'd have bought a new ford that day. that would have been a cheap car.

Yes, this is true. However be sure you get a sales rep who knows how to process the deal under the plan, otherwise you're going to have a lot of wasted time / headaches.

As far as I understood it though, I have to have my name on the title, so I couldn't transfer the deal to even immediate family. Maybe it's another plan (nissan maybe) that I'm thinking of. Is this not true for all these types of plans made available as a "discount" ?

I think yes, it would be patriotic.

Patriotic would be ford making decent vehicles instead of pieces of sh!t.

Its the x-plan and he ha already done the deal several times for family and friends. The dealer still gets something like $500 for selling the car from Ford. I'll have to check out that SUV stuff.

Depends on what vehicle. You can listen to the @$$hat flamers here who hate Ford or you can do what you really desire. Go out and test drive whatever interests you and make your decision based off that

I'm liking the escape the best so far. The only car I ever had was my 1992 Honda accord sedan. It has treated me well but it is nearing its end. I'm kinda thinking SUV could come in handy.
