I'm a little out of date on my road bicycle stuff.

Budget is $1000.

Things that I was thinking:

1. Get the frame fitted and know what size you need (she might want to go for a women's frame?)

2. Get at least Shimano 105 (not sure what the equivalent Campagnolo is).

3. Weight - lighter is better. With her budget I guess she's good to go for aluminum and steel alloys.

4. Not sure about other stuff...

$1000 is too much for someone to spend if that person doesn't even know the basics. Why does she think she needs at least 105 components?

As you suggested, the fit is by far the most important factor in road bikes.
