Hi all,

Replaced the mobo and hard drive on a friends system. The usb ports seem dead on the mobo. Without RMA'ing the motherboard can I use pci usb ports? Even if the usb controller doesnt work or whatever the problem is?

Sorry to be so obtuse,

Thanks in advanee, Leigh

Device manager/Delete all USB references/Reboot
It should resort things out. Do you have service pack1 & 2? (XP)
Do you have motherboard chipset drivers installed?
If still doen't work a pci USB2 card should solve problems ($20 @ CompUSA)

Service pack 2 is installed and the chipset drivers are installed. Device manager shows all the usb ports ok.

So I am going to delete EVERYTHING under usb serial bus controllers? There is nothing in it that says delete. Do you mean uninstall the driver for each individual item?

Thanks, Leigh

Yes, uninstall all the devices under the usb tree. Restart the computer and windows will automatically reload the drivers.
